SPD MOM: Acting careers for Asperger kids?

Here is a question. Why could a child with autism possibly be good at acting? It would be their memory.. in other words, their ability to recite what they just heard, verbatim. It happens all the time in our house. The amount of commercials our younger son is able to regurgitake, word for word, intonation to intonation, is incredible. BUT, he cannot follow a simple one step instruction, like, "pick up the nerf dart, which is right infront of you." Crazy right? But true. The weather here has been so darn hot, that many days we are trapped in the house... or at least it feels like trapped. I like the heat, but when it starts to get above 90, and then you add in say 80% humidity, I'm toast. So, one of things my guys like to do, as do many, are make these nerf videos. It is great to see them perform in front of the camera, not only because they enjoy it, but it helps them to socialize in a more indirect way. Hey, ANY socializing I feel is good socializing. Rather than having to face another child, and get the words out, they can use media to get their message across. To speak.. to socialize in a "safe" way for them. The camera becomes a very good friend, and a hobby that they not only both love, but enjoy doing together as brothers. Below I have posted another video that they did yesterday. My younger son is better at looking the camera in the eye than his older bother is. Its an interesting perspective to see aspergers captured with media.
